Bring Your Toys To The Airport Come celebrate the holiday season with us at the Airport Bar in DeLand! We will be playing all your favorite Whiskey Basin songs from 9PM - 1AM!
Also, we are asking (if the budget allows) people to bring an unwrapped gift for a child in the 10-15 age range to help support the Salvation Army.
There are some great emotional highs in life - falling in love, making music together, having great drinks with good friends -- and making someone's Christmas just a little bit brighter by giving them a toy during the Holiday season.
A lot of times these kids are forgotten about at Christmas time, and we all know how important these years are in a young person's life! It is definitely not required... but we would greatly appreciate it, and we're sure the kids would too!
Whiskey Basin Teaches Guitar!
A new friend of WB, Marcus, writes: "My name is Marcus. I am currently deployed and learning the guitar and have found it very helpful to watch you play as I try and mimic what you are doing...So far its going good but I do want to get a new guitar when I get home and really love the sound of yours. What kind of guitar ...I think its a Takamine, but what model is it? Also is it acoustic electric?

Marcus, we're pretty much floored that we're actually helping someone LEARN to play, just by doing what we love to do! To answer your questions:
- Yes, It's a Takamine (I believe it's a EF341SC Model).
- It is definitely an acoustic-electric.
- Soon, we'll be posting galleries of all our instruments

Mike Hill speaks out against US Taxpayers Being Swindled "I've always been a little left of center. But I get REAL conservative REAL quick when people become hypocritical and start wasting Americans' hard-earned money - ESPECIALLY when it looks like theft.
What's this all about? Well, recently I read an article about Carbon Offset Credits. These are little vouchers that people can buy to make amends for any pollution they do. The money goes to some company that has the tools, supposedly, to "strike at the heart of pollution" by cleaning up the environment and getting rid of the pollutants that you and I use on a daily basis. (Carbon Monoxide, Chlorofluorocarbons or 'CFCS', etc etc.) This sounds like an interesting idea, so I looked into it.
I found a few newspaper articles that explained what the program was about, and how people pay a company called Generation Investment Management (what an ambiguous name!) for the Carbon Credits that supposedly fund environmental cleanup. But what else I heard really pissed me off.
Apparently, Al Gore FOUNDED Generation Investment Management. This is not bad in itself - it's a noble idea to start a company that cleans up after America's toxic mess. Go Al, right? WRONG. It all goes south when you also find out that Al buys carbon credits from the company to make it seem like he's contributing to environmental cleanup, but then turns around and COLLECTS MONEY FROM THE COMPANY AS CHAIRMAN. So, for all his liberal wit and wisdom, Al's really just a capitalist at heart, and a hypocritical one at that. Remember this the next time somebody on the left side bashes ANYBODY on the Right for wanting to make money...
Not one to shy away from expressing my opinion, I decided to post my 'feelings' on this at none other than Al Gore's Website. How's that for striking at the heart?" (note: the opinions expressed are mine alone. Blame me, not WB!)

Our home town never seems to disappoint us. WB Fans were out in full force at Gators Dockside in Deland this Saturday, many in their brand new WB T-Shirts.
We have our favorite songs - everyone does - and now it's time for us to start searching for some brand new stuff to play for everyone. And just like everything we do, we want everyone (including YOU) to be a part of this! Soon we will be redesigning the ENTIRE website here at whiskeybasin.com, and adding a fan poll. This means you'll have a say in what new songs we do, where we play, and how we can make your show experience even better!

September 24,2009 WB Wins Best Local Band 2009
Whiskey Basin sure is making an impact in Volusia County! Our latest achievement - winning the Daytona Beach News Journal's Readers Choice Award for Best Local Band 2009 - comes right on the heels of a greatly successful weekend which pulled the guys more tightly together than ever. Friday started out with a great, absolutely spilling-over-the-brim PACKED show at the Airport Bar in Deland, Florida, where so many of our local fans and friends showed up I was actually amazed! Thanks to everyone who came out that night and partied with us - we hope to see you this weekend at Gators Dockside once again! Saturday found us out at Gilley's Pub 44 in New Smyrna Beach, where we performed our original songs and some of our fans' favorite covers for the Sheriffs Youth Ranch Benefit Concert. I'd like to take just a second to say thanks to all our new friends who purchased shirts, CDs and merchandise from us at this show - 50% of what you spent went straight to the kids, and thanks to all of you, WHISKEY BASIN WAS ABLE TO DONATE $200.00 TO THE CAUSE!

August 20, 2009 "Sometimes it's not about what you want for you... it's about what you want for your band, and what sounds the best. I had a tough time parting with my old 40th Anniversary Strat, but after much soul searching and a reality check about how badly I'd beaten the hell out of it, I finally decided to trade it in for some newer, better sounding gear."
"My new Ibanez JS20 completely rocks. I'm still working with the tonalities but that combined with my new Peavey amp make a big difference, and some have even said it brings the sound of the strings in the band up to a whole new level."
The amp itself has a HUGE ego, and it definitely drives the overall sound of my rig. I hook it up to my foot pedal for volume control and tuning, but for the most part the pedal stays in bypass mode since the tones of the amp are so powerful already. (chuckles) Just wait until I figure out how to make some of the crazier effects work with the amp! Sick."

Hey folks,
I just want to send out a big THANK YOU to all the performers for making our Woodstock event a huge success, and a real boost for the Athens Theatre. From Professor Messer's and Thom Chambers' opening (true professionals who performed top notch, knowing the early crowd might be a bit thin), to all the mid day acts (DDB, Small Potatoes, Lauris, Roberto (Dish), Magda, Buckets &Strings), to the evening performances (After Indiana, Joe Caruso, Whiskey Basin and The Hemby Brothers), everything went off virtually without a hitch (other than a bit of weakness in the monitors, which everyone played thru).
I hesitate to comment on any specific part of the show, because all were fantastic (I received many, many comments), but just in case you missed the Call Me The Breeze finale with Whiskey Basin lead guitarist Mike Hill, After Indiana lead Rhett Costa, and Jerry Hemby (following his Star Spangled Banner tribute, with Jimi Hendrix on the big screen in the background), the 15 minutes of superb guitar solos, bass riffs by Tom and a drum solo by Chip, was truly top notch. The crowd left screaming and exhausted (as I am).
Again, many, many thanks to all; we showed them what local talent can do at the Athens. Hopefully, we can do some follow ups in the future.

Last weekend's performance at the Airport bar was totally packed and we're very thankful. This weekend will mark our first concert performed inside a theatre (classy huh?). We'll all be looking forward to seeing our friends there and love all the support we've been given by all those who freely donated their time and energy to make this event really bring back the spark to Deland culture. Those were the tough breaks of the weekend in Bunnell, Florida. Whiskey Basin fans and Bog enthusiasts were turned away after storms and severe weather warnings came down on Flagler county.
